Adrian Mantu è nato a Bucharest, Romania e ha svolto i suoi studi presso la George Enescu Music School e la “George Enescu” University of Music di Bucharest, ottenendo il diploma e il Master of Arts con il massimo dei voti.

È violoncellista e fondatore del RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, della Residenza del Galway Ensembre, curatore di Our Tunes/Dublin Music Town, professore associato presso la Royal Irish Academy of Music di violoncello e musica da camera.

Adrian ha vinto 16 premi internazionali nelle Competizioni di Violoncello e Musica da Camera di Londra, Monaco, Berlino, Praga, Bucharest, Graz, Amburgo, Sofia e Roma

Si è esibito in oltre 2000 concerti nel mondo in 46 paesi (in luoghi come Wigmore Hall, Filarmonica di Berlino, Tel-Aviv Opera, Carnegie Hall, Gedai Tokyo, NCH), presentando i Cicli di Quartetti per Archi di Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Bartok e Shostakovich, oltre ai concerti per violoncello di Bach, Handel, Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Beethoven, Tschaikovsky, Brahms, Lalo, Saint-Saens, Elgar, Schumann, Dvorak, Williams, Bernstein, Piazzola, Constantinescu e Dimitrescu.

Ha avuto l’onore di esibirsi alla presenza di grandi personalità come Michael D. Higgins, il Principe Carlo, Nelson Mandela, Giovanni Paolo II, vincitori di Premi Novel e star di Hollywood. Ha composto ed arrangiato la musica per il film “Trop Tard” (selezionato per il Festival di Cannes) e ha registrato la musica per la miniserie di Steven Spielberg e Tom Hanks “Band of Brothers”.

Quest’anno celebra il Ventesimo anniversario del ConTempo Quartet con oltre 100 concerti in Irlanda e all’estero (comprese esibizioni presso NCH, Wigmore Hall e tour nel Regno Unito, Romania, Italia e Finlandia).

Suona violoncelli barocchi, moderni ed elettrici.

Il suo ultimo album “New Airs” è arrivato alla terza posizione nella classifica di iTunes classical.
Ha registrato con Universal Sony, Quartz, Deutsche Schallplatten e NMC.

Da quando si è unito all’Accademia è stato coinvolto in numerosi progetti della RIAM (i Weekend di Stravinsky, gli eventi di Wigmore Hall 1916, The Lynch Junior string quartets programme) collaborando con le orchestre della RIAM, Quartetti Junior e Senior, studenti di composizione, studenti di violoncello e gli Alumni con numerosi workshop, concerti, masterclass e lezioni.

Lo scorso anno ha iniziato il Dottorato in Music Performance al Trinity/RIAM concentrandosi sulla letteratura per il quartetto d’archi in Irlanda, cento anni dopo la Rivolta di Pasqua.

Nel giugno 2016 ad Adrian e ai suoi colleghi dell’RTÈ Con Tempo Quartet è stato conferito il Diploma di Dottorato in Musica Honoris Causa dall’Università Nazionale d’Irlanda, Galway (NUIG).

The Professor

Adrian Mantu was born in Bucharest, Romania and studied at the George Enescu Music School and the “George Enescu” University of Music Bucharest, gaining his performing diploma and MA in performing and teaching with maximum points.

He is the cellist/founder of the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet, Galway Ensemble in Residence, Curator of Our Tunes/Dublin Music Town, cello/chamber music Fellow Teacher at RIAM. Adrian has won 16 International Prizes in Cello & Chamber Music Competitions (London, Munich, Berlin, Prague, Bucharest, Graz, Hamburg, Sofia, Rome).

He has performed over 2000 concerts around the world in 46 countries (in venus such as Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonic, Tel-Aviv Opera, Carnegie Hall, Gedai Tokyo, NCH) including the Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schumann, Bartok & Shostakovich String Quartet Cycles and the essential cello concertos (including PhE & Ch Bach, Handel, Boccherini, Vivaldi, Haydn, Beethoven, Tschaikovsky, Brahms, Lalo, C Saint-Saens, Elgar, Schumann, Dvorak, V Williams, Bernstein, Piazzola, P Constantinescu and C Dimitrescu).

Adrian had the honour to perform in front of great personalities (Michael D Higgins, Prince Charles, Nelson Mandela, Pope John Paul II, Nobel Prize Winners & Hollywood Stars). He has composed and arranged the music for the “Trop Tard” film (selected for Cannes Fest) and recorded the music for Steven Spielberg & Tom Hank’s “Band of Brothers”.

Adrian is celebrating this season the 20th Anniversary of Contempo Quartet through over 100 concerts in Ireland and abroad (including appearances in NCH, Wigmore Hall and Tours in UK, Romania, Italy & Finland). He performs equally on baroque, modern & electric cellos.

His latest album “New Airs” went straight to no 3 in the iTunes classical charts.
His recordings can be found on the Universal, Sony, Quartz, Deutsche Schallplatten & NMC labels.

Since joining the Academy Adrian was involved in many wonderful RIAM projects (Stravinsky weekend, Wigmore Hall 1916 events, The Lynch Junior string quartets programme) collaborating with RIAM’s Orchestras, Junior/Senior String Quartets, Composition Students, Cello students and RIAM’s Alumni in different workshops, concerts, master-classes & lectures.

Last year he started a DMusPerf at Trinity/RIAM focussing on the string quartet literature in Ireland, hundred years after the Rising.

On 10th June 2016 Adrian and his colleagues from the RTÉ ConTempo Quartet were awarded a Degree of Doctor of Music (honoris causa) by the the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG).
