Drammaturgia musicale

AIMS COURSE
The course examines the different moments of the history of the opera, from its origins to the twentieth-century repertoire, with particular reference to the transformation of its dramaturgical forms: from the original conception of the Florentines and Monteverdi, to the exquisitely musical and virtuoso of the eighteenth-century melodrama; from opera “a numeri” of the early nineteenth century numbers, to Verdi’s drama to the composers of the twentieth century. Will be explored the dramatic forms, the structure of the literary and musical drama. Finally, they will study the dramatic topoi in the operatic repertoire.

STUDY PROGRAM
In addition to the analysis of numerous works of the operatic repertoire from its origins to the present day and to the study of styles linked to different composers, we will analyze the dramatic structure of the works, to the standard literary sources and the musical structure as dramaturgy generator. Will be heard works, analyzed recitatives, duets, ensembles, arias and more generally will analyze the synopsis and the characters of the works under study, through the analysis schemes developed during the lessons. The characteristics of the ‘music for the scene will be identified’ and the ways in which this occurs.

PROGRAM OF EXAMINATION
The exam includes a written analysis of a work chosen by the candidate among those of the operatic repertoire with discussion on the work and value of musical dramaturgy.
